Week Nine Post One

While reading chapter fourteen I grew a strong interest for the section on the sequence of puberty.  Puberty begins around the age of nine when hormones tend to increase. Hormones are defined as an organic chemical substance that is produced by one body tissue and conveyed via the bloodstream to another to affect some physiological function. Ovaries increase production of estrogen and progesterone at the start of puberty. At nine and a half the female and male reproductive organs begin to grow larger.  At age ten the breasts on females begin to grow and the testes increase production of testosterone. At eleven females experience pubic hair growth and suffer weight spurts. Pubic hair begins to appear for males at the age of eleven and half while females experience their peak in their height spurt. At the age of twelve females are in their peak for muscle and organ growth and the male reproductive organ begins to grow. A male’s spermarche begins around age of twelve and a half in the spurt of their weight.  At the same age females begin to experience their first menstrual period. At thirteen males being their peak in height spurts, while females have their first ovulation. At the age of fourteen males experience their peak in muscle and organ growth, while females encounter their voices lowering.  The male’s voice lowers at the age of fifteen in addition to the beginning of facial hair.  At this age females reach their final pubic hair pattern. Males don’t experience their final pubic hair pattern until the age of eighteen. At sixteen females reach full breast growth. I found this section to be so interesting because I never actually knew the entire sequence of puberty. I always knew the gist of the meaning of puberty but never broke it down into the exact process. I find it really interesting to read and learn the entire process although I’ve already experienced the sequence.
