Week 6 Post 1
Chapter 10 was about the psychosocial development in early childhood.
I like learning about the development of children because it makes me think of
my childhood and how I developed. One part of the chapter that interested
me was the different types of play. Children play best with children of
similar age and social status. One thing
I disagree with is that children would rather play with their peers instead of
their parents. Yes, as a child, I loved
playing at the playground with peers but when I was home, I loved playing with
my sister and dad. I didn’t live in a
neighborhood with children so my father would play with me and my sister, or
sometimes just me and my dad when my sister wasn’t home. Sociodramatic play is a type of active play
in which children act out various roles and plots. This was a major part of my childhood. My mom had a chest full of old clothes from
when she was growing up. Me and my
friends would play dress up with these clothes and pretend we were other
people. I also had play sets, like a
play kitchen. We used to act like we
were cooking and have little dinner and tea parties. Reading about this sociodramatic play in the
book made me reminisce about my childhood.
