I think technology in classrooms is definitely helpful to
children, and having internet is an advantage at home. I know when my computer
was broken at home I had to make multiple trips to the library and it was
definitely an annoyance and made trying to get my homework done a hassle.
However I also agree with the book that the internet is a distraction as well.
Especially now since social media has exploded and people can spend hours on
end on Facebook and twitter. Technology
has definitely helped me in order to further my learning. Without Google and
looking up articles online, etc. and definitely spell check my homework and
essays would be a sloppy mess. I found it interesting how a study was done that
shows that 10-18 year old low income families improved reading and math skills
when given internet access. This just goes to show how much the internet and computers
really do help with learning and development.
