Week 9 Post 1

In chapter 15, it took time to mention middle school. Middle school for me was a tough time. I had trouble moving from elementary school, which I knew all my classmates and was comfortable with my teachers and classmates. When moving to middle school I was scared. I didn't know everyone in class, and my teachers had trouble learning our names. I had trouble with my grades as well. When I read the chapter it said that in middle school academic achievement decreases. It called the first year of middle school the "low ebb" of learning, when many teachers feel ineffective. I think because I was under a lot of stress from moving into a new school, that could be a possibility of why academically I didn't do to well. The book also mentioned that learning suffers because of the organizational structure of the school. Middle school teachers specialize in a particular academic area, and they teach a hundred students a year. There is very little connection between student and teacher. I also believe this is another reason why I did not do well in middle school.
