Week 9 Post 1

This week we discussed adolescent thinking. We learned that there's different aspects of adolescent thinking called fables. The fable I want to focus on in this post is invincibility fable. Invincibility fable is the idea where what they're doing will not hurt them or affect them. For example, unprotected sex, fast driving, doing drugs. Military service is a big deal, where those who volunteer are normally under the age of 20. They are hoping and willing to be sent into combat. the young recruits are the ones who are more likely to take risks, even more than the older and more experienced soldiers. I think this is really interesting because, especially recently, more and more young people are enlisting and more and more are coming back effected by PTSD. I wonder if there is a correlation with being young and suffering with PTSD. If the soldiers who were enlisting and were being sent to battle were older with a more mature prefrontal cortex would there be as many suffering from PTSD?
