Have you ever wonder why we as individuals react in a
certain way to an action or event happening? The reason why we react to events
is because we have developed emotions over time which starts when were young. When
learning emotions we learn how to regulate them meaning the ability to control
when and how emotions are expressed. As a baby cries they do not have full
control over there emotions buy reacting when something is not right or when
they are happy. The process of emotions seems very simple but is complex since
we are learning and being taught how to understand how to respond to other
things. Pointed out in chapter 10 in our text book about emotions is; in
different cultures there are different meanings of what is expected from
children and the norms (p. 267). One example is that in the United States
that fear is an emphasized emotion that should be controlled. When a child is
growing and developing there parents have a major influence on how emotions
play a role and how they are understood. Some parents may follow the cultural
norms or what past generations have done but others may just base it one what
they think is correct. A fact that has been found by researchers which is very fascinating
is that girls tend to develop emotional regulation before boys. Emotions play a
very particular role in our daily life and we learn how to regulate them over
time during experiences in the developmental stages.
