Week 8 Post 1

I think that everyone has experienced bullying in some way. Whether it be you were doing the bullying or the bullying was being done to you. There will never be no bullying at all, only in a perfect world that we all dream of. In high school I experienced bullying on the game field, in class, and through the internet. To be honest my group of friends were usually the ones that did most of the bullying. Myself and a guy friend that was in my friend group were usually the ones that tried not to get involved and were nice to everyone. If we saw our friends picking on someone we would usually stand on the other persons side and tell them to stop. Since I was associated with popular jocks in high school many people thought that I did a lot of the bullying as well, which was not true. I mean I'm sure I have bullied someone sometime in my life but I cannot think of a distinct instance. I think that a lot of bullying also comes from how others perceive ones family. I know that my older brother was popular through out school so that could be a reason that I was teachers favorite and others saw me as cool right at the beginning of elementary school. A lot of bullying and social status starts at the elementary school level. If a child is not seen as cool or athletic from the start that can affect their social status for the rest of their life. How wealthy someone's family is also has an affect on how others see them. If a kid comes from a wealthy back round they are more likely to be seen as cool and have more friends. So I think that Dan O's research that was demonstrated in our discussion will not work. Trying to enforce a non-bullying system will never pass through with the kids. I believe that there will always be ways for kids to be bullied whether it is hidden in the school scene like Dan was trying to do or not. Bullying happens through the internet, on the game field, and in non-school related functions as well.
