week 7
In chap 12 The section that caught my attention the most is "family poverty". I found it very interesting that there is a strong correlation between academic achievement and socioeconomic status and language is the reason for it. Children from low income families tend to have smaller vocabulary and their grammar is simpler. they tend to fall behind their peers in talking reading and other ways as well. Parents that didn't go to college can still help their children from falling behind. They can read to them daily watch educational programs with them and many others options as well. The thing that I do not agree with in this chapter or in general is the no child left behind act. I do not not agree with this act simply because children are graduating from school without knowing fractions or other things that they should know. Instead of children being pushed along I think children should stay behind if necessary so they can develop correctly and learn correctly. They force these test on children to get funding. Instead of them teaching children everything they need to know daily teachers are now focusing on teaching them what they need to know to pass these test so their school can get funding. I strongly disagree with this act, it is not helping the children learn it is only helping the schools financially which is not fair.
