Week 7 post 1

In chapter 12 it talked about international testing which I found very interesting. International comparisons of achievement have found that the United States is not among the top scoring. The primarry test of reading is the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) which is given every 5 years. In 2006 Canadian children from the western provinces were close to the top and the Untied States ranked 15th out of 45 groups. Science and Math achievement are tested in the Trend in Math and Science Study (TIMSS) East Asian nations are advanced. A interesting fact is that 10 year old Singapore scored higher that the top 5 percent of the U.S students. U.S has not improved much on the TIMSS over the past several years.
