I found this week's discussion to be very interesting. I
enjoy when I can relate the discussion posts to my own life and can reflect on
various experiences. Responding to this discussion allowed me to discover
things about myself that I never have before. I reflected on my parents'
parenting style and made connections to my personal traits today. These
connections were very intriguing to me because different aspects of my
childhood directly correlate to my characteristics as this point in my life. I
believe that if I were raised by a friend's parents, I would be a different
person than who I am today. My development in various phases of my life would
have changed based on the parenting style that was implemented. After reading
some of our classmates' responses to the discussion, I came to the conclusion
that most of our parents used the authoritative parenting style. This was not a
surprise because in the article that I read, one of the findings in the results
was that most parents of college students use the authoritative parenting
style. The study also concluded that children
with authoritative education style have high social-emotional development and
better academic performance. This relates to the previous conclusion
about the parents of college students. I am really glad that I was able to
participate in this discussion because I was able to make connections to myself
and my family as well as make new discoveries about myself.
