Week 7 Post 1

In the book it discusses different tests and what they test. The main test that I remember always taking is the PSSA's. I remember being stuck in a room with my peers for a good 3 hours at a time and having to take a test that whole time and not talk or anything. I also remember getting different rewards that week like extra recess and delicious snacks. The test was basically an easier version of the SAT’s we would read a story and answer different questions and we would also answer math questions like how many different ingredients are needed to make thirty pizzas. Personally I think the PSSA’s are dumb. You can’t just measure what the children know with these dumb questions. I know people who just filled in the bubbles in a pretty pattern instead of actually doing them. Also the teachers focus on the standards and what is on the test too much. We take so much time doing practice PSSA’s etc. that I feel like it takes away from the skills we should be learning. Also it is unfair that federal aid is distributed because the reason that the low income schools do worse is because they don’t have the same advantages because of the area they are in. Therefore taking away federal aid just because the schools don’t do well on a test is not a good tactic. This is why I think the PSSA’s should be revised of taken away and they should try a different type of test with different incentives.
