In Chapter 13 there is a section about stress. It says that a child's interpretation of their child hood affects what happens to them. If one feels they grew up in a temporary hardship, they are looking forward to the day they can leave. This reminds me a lot of my older sister. Growing up in a split home we had a lot of issues with our dad and his new family so I know my sister was just counting down the days till she could leave. While on the other side, children who feel about their childhood like may also end up experiencing parentification. Parentification is when the child ends up acting as the parent trying to take care of everyone, especially their parents. This is me to a T, I'm always giving my dad advice and listening to him complain about his life situation. And while this isn't an appropriate relationship for a father and daughter to have I do it because I feel bad for him and don't want him to feel alone. I think it's really fascinating how two children growing up in the same situation can end up resulting differently from it.
I really enjoy in this class being able to see where I fit in with the different situations and scenarios and then I am able to look back and see when in my life this stuff may have happened.
