Week 8 Post 2
I really enjoyed reading about social acceptance and
friendship in Chapter 13. I think the reason why I enjoyed it so much was
because it made me think back to my childhood and what some of friendships were
like. In this section it talked about how and when children start to form good
friendships with other peers (Berger, p. 365). Looking back to my younger years
when I was in kindergarten, I didn’t have a really close friend because I was
too young to really know what my interests were like. After school, I my mom
would ask me who I played with that day. As I think back to this time, I don’t
really remember any one particular person that I played with during recess. The
reason I don’t remember is because each day I would play with someone
different. Each day my interests would change and therefore I would play with
different people. However, as I grew older, I began to develop more interests
and I was able to identify myself with certain things. I was about eight years
old when I got my first best friend and we have been friends ever since. I
never really thought about why my best friend and I got along so well until I
read this chapter. This section of Chapter 13 mentioned how children usually
become best friends with someone who shares similar values, interests, and
backgrounds as them (Berger, p. 365). I never really thought about it, but I
feel like these three reasons play a huge part as to why my friend and I are
still best friends.
