Week 4 post 2
Something that I found to be interesting in this chapter was the emotions that infants have. They seem to have two emotions being distress and contentment. It seems like anger and sadness because a common emotion in young children. In the book it says that anger is evident at 6 months. Usually anger is triggered by something, like frustration. The book does mention though that anger is a health response. Sadness in a baby indicates withdraw. When a baby is sad a production of cortisol is produced. Cortisol is a stress hormone. Fear is defined in the book as a response to some person, thing, or situation. Fear emerges around 9 months of age. The book also mentions two different kinds of fear, one is stranger fear, which is when a baby cries if an stranger moves to close or to quickly. The other kind is separation anxiety, which is expressed in tears, dismay, or anger when a caregiver leaves.
