Week 4 Post 1
I really enjoyed this week’s video. I found it to be both informative
as well as interesting. However, the
thing that I found to be the most interesting was how we can inherit either
being shy or being outgoing from our parents. After watching the whole video, I
began to wander what I was like as an infant. I decide to call my mom and ask
her some questions about what my personality traits were like when I was
younger. My mom told me that I was very curious when I was young child. She said
she had to keep a very close eye on me because I loved to explore. In addition,
my mom told me that even at a young age I loved to talk. My mom believes that I
got my social and people skills from her because my mom loves to work with
people. She then began to compare the differences between my sister and me when
we were children. According to her, my older sister and I were like completely
different children. Apparently, when my sister was younger she was very shy,
which I found really hard to believe because to me she is so talkative and
outgoing. Yet, as a child my mom said my sister was very quiet. My mom said that
my sister got her shyness from my dad. My mom told me stories about how my
sister would cry every time my parents dropped her off at pre-school. Nonetheless,
my mom said she was determined to make my sister change because she couldn’t stand
the crying for much longer. My parents begin to schedule play dates with our
neighbors and our cousins to help my sister come out of her shell. This allowed
my sister to sort of be forced to interact with other children when my parents
were around. Additionally, my mom thinks
that having two more children helped my sister to become less shy. My mom said
that she would ask my sister to be her helper around the house because taking
care of three children and a husband was a lot of work. Today, both my dad and
my mom feel that my sister is a very secure and independent woman and I would
have to agree.
