Week 2, Post 2

The other day when I was looking at articles for the discussion board I found a very interesting article from The New York Times call "What Is it About 20-Somethings". The main theme of the article was the question "why are so many people in their 20s taking so long to grow up?" The article was mostly about Professor Jeffery Arnett from Clark University, who is looking at a new developmental stage called emerging adulthood. The stage would be ages between 18 and late 20s. Arnett says that emerging adulthood is for identity exploration, instability, self-focus, and feeling in-between. In the article Arnett discussed the fact that Eric Erikson was one of the first psychologist to focus on development past childhood.  What Arnett believed that in Erikson's stages he had one stage as being young (ages 20 to 45). though Arnett said that is to broad of a age difference. That this emerging adulthood should be placed in between for people ages 20 to early 30s.
I just found this article very interesting because it stated the fact that young people in their 20s are not yet ready to be adults and taking care of themselves. I truly believe that because I think about the fact of what would I do without the support of my parents. It would hard to be a full time student and support myself. I feel like I can really relate to the article, and probably a lot of people in class can learn and relate off this article.
