When reading through out our text the one main thing that
stuck out to me was the cognitive equilibrium process. The cognitive equilibrium
process is the mental state of which one is not confused because they use existing
thought processes to learn new experiences (Berger p. 46). This theory points
out the process of how we as individuals go through the developmental process
and learn new things in different stages of life. Like when we are born we do
not have motor skills or speech but they are learned over time by observation and
teaching to get us to that stage. Also traits of learning things faster than
one another or understanding concepts better over time can be genetic and
influenced by our parents childrearing skills. One individual may take a longer
period of time to understand concepts or information such as studying for
specific subject. For me science was always harder for me to understand and
took longer for me to process the information. In high school when I took
chemistry others in my class understood how to do the formulas faster than me
since there mind and cognitive equilibrium process happened easier since they
had more skills and understanding in that subject.
