Week 4 Post 1
I really enjoy watching videos from the discovering psychology website. I feel like these videos help me better understand the topics that are discussed in our textbook. I love learning how we progress and grow as we age. I feel like knowing this information is really helpful in understanding the human life. This is the main reason why I signed up for this class. This weeks learning really peaked my interest because I can see these changes for my self in my little brother. The part that I found really interesting was when they found the little boy from the forest and used that to test the nature vs. nurture theories. Also when I was little I was a very shy kid and did not talk to any strangers. I wouldn't even talk to a waiter at a restaurant. Now I changed and am the complete opposite. I think since my mom was always a very vocal and outgoing person it changed me to be like her. This is illustrated by two people and their research that was presented in the video. Jerome Kagan studied the behavioral differences between timid and outgoing children and Steven Suomi studied the behavior of genetically shy monkeys. Both of these studies can be related to my experience. Suomi's research with the monkeys shows a great connection. When he separated shy monkeys and put them with monkeys that were a lot different, they tended to change just like I did.
