Week 4 Post 1

I like watching the videos on the Discovering Psychology website because they are very educational and help me learn some of the topics discussed in our textbook.  One part I found interesting in this video was the research done by Jerome Kagan and Steven Suomi.  Jerome Kagan studied the behavioral differences between timid and bold children.  Steven Suomi studies the behavior of genetically shy monkeys.  These two studies are similar because they deal with behavioral differences.  Humans have evolved from monkeys therefore the study of monkeys allow us to correlate the behaviors of monkeys to the behaviors of humans.  Suomi found that shy monkeys will stay with their mothers while monkey who are not shy will venture away from their mothers.  This behavior is similar in children as well.  Sometimes it is easier to study monkeys or other animals rather than humans.  As a biology major, I understand how studying animals relate to studying humans.
