Week 2: Post 1

While reading Chapter 2, I was glad to see that I recognized a lot of the theorists’ names and ideas from the Psychology 100 class I took last semester. It was reassuring to know that I have a good idea of the basics of what we will be learning more about this semester. I also liked being able to read more in depth about the certain experiments they conducted, such as Harlow’s experiment with infant monkeys and cloth and wire “mothers”.
It was interesting to read about how most developmentalists take the eclectic perspective approach to psychology. It is encouraging to know that there are people who know how to listen to others’ ideas and not be so adamant about their own. Looking at a situation from multiple viewpoints helps people to find the best solutions and ideas. Collaboration can even help new ideas form.
Another section I really enjoyed reading about was Sociocultural Theory, mostly due to the information on the Zone of Proximal Development. I haven’t taken any of my education classes yet, but I am confident that having prior knowledge about the Zone of Proximal Development will help me better understand the course. The ideas of sociocultural theorists will hopefully help me one day when I am a high school math teacher.
