Week 1 Post 2
In chapter one, they pose the question 'Is the admission process based on quality or quantity?'. This I thought was a very interesting question, the answer to the question given was that most institutions of higher education focus on quantitative data; for example SAT, GPA, class rank, etc. Then it asks you whether you believe this is fairer than using a more qualitative approach. In my opinion I think it should be more equaled out. I think if someone is an outstanding student in high school with a perfect GPA and really high in their class rank they absolutely should be considered highly for being offered to be a student of a higher education institution. Then again, some students don't test well and I believe, especially with today's public school education system, that I feel like there should be other ways of seeing whether or not a student would be capable of college level work and up. I know personally I don't test very well, so the SAT's were really hard for me. I believe that not only should we rethink our education system of public schools, but also that it would be beneficial to reevaluate the higher education system and how they evaluate who will be admitted into their schools or not.
