Week 2 Post 2

For this post I wanted to touch more on Piaget's ideas. I wanted to address Table 2.2 specifically that outlines each stage he observed and believed to exist. When he explained the characteristics of each of the periods I agreed with his thoughts for the most part. But I was most interested in his distinction of each period with major gains during each one. As I read through each of these gains, and having experience and exposure to children of all ages, I compared my observations. I often also thought about my own experiences. It was neat to be able to relate all of his ideas to my own life and experiences. I also found Information Processing to be a very interesting topic. I like the fact that a large number of theories created by many different research programs and scientists are incorporated into this idea to make one large framework. I was intrigued that the theory was inspired by computer functioning. I find that interesting because we created computers. Now we are relating certain brain functions and processes to a machine that we have created. It's fascinating to consider some adults today because often, in terms of specific things, computers are smarter than humans. And to think we created them! I believe that it really demonstrates the variability of skills throughout our culture. Some people arent even sure how to check their email while others can create entire worlds using the same tool. However, don't be offended. Everyone has their specialties and skills that are unique and special to them.
Anyway, I really support most of Piaget's thoughts, theories, and work because I can relate to him almost on a personal level. I completely agree with how he comes to conclusions and how he executed his experiments. I think that he was a really crucial part in shaping modern day psychology and was really interested in what the book said about him.
