While reading chapter eighteen I really enjoyed the section
on the effects of college. Usually contemporary students attend college
primarily to secure better jobs and to learn specific skills. The secondary goal
is to gain general education. I can definitely relate to this, school is
honestly not the place I want to be I’d rather be working and starting a family
but I know without a college degree it is hard to go anywhere in life. A study
done in 2007 within the United States shows that the average annual income of
fulltime workers with a BA degree was $73,000 compared to the people with only
high school diplomas that made $36,000. Going to college is definitely nothing but
beneficial. More than half of all U.S. students take out loans in order to pay
for college, and about 80 percent are employed while that is students because
they have a lot of concerns about their debts and economic future. Although
college is beneficial, it is beyond stressful. College tuition is very
expensive, and a huge weight on your shoulders, I am always wondering how I’m
going to be able to pay my loans back therefore I work two jobs as I attend
school. College is known to provide better health for students. College
graduates tend to smoke less, eat better, exercise more, and live longer. They
are also more likely to be spouses, homeowners and parents of healthy children.
This information only inspires me to make the best of my college career. College
is beneficial in many ways and no matter how hard it is you just have to fight
through the hard times.
