Week 10 post 2

In my first blog post for this week I talked about relationships and how it plays a role in finding ones identity. Well along the lines of relationships and finding who one is an individual could lead to tough times in one’s life such as dealing with depression or other emotional situations which then could lead up to one wanting to commit suicide. As our text points out about a study that was conducted on Latino adolescents that enter puberty and after puberty to see if there self-esteem rose or not. The results from the study was found that if the individual had support from family their self-esteem rose but if the endured family situations there was decline in their self-esteem (Berger,449).  Not only can ones self-esteem decrease but it could lead to clinical depression which is feeling hopelessness and sadness which disrupts normal activities. The situation on one developing clinical depression is very sad and could continue into one’s whole life unless they seek extra help or assistance to overcome the situation in some ways. One who maybe dealing with depression or suicidal thoughts may resort to drugs, alcohol, or other things to feel some kind of comfort or temporary problem solver. A person who deals with depression could have got it through biological factors or psychological development which can cause one to fall into the trap of feeling sadness or hopelessness. If a group of support helps individuals dealing with the situations of depression or suicidal thoughts it can prevent from the individual feeling worthless and help them boost their self-esteem. Do you know someone who deals with depression or suicidal thoughts? Have you thought about trying to help them in a way to overcome the situation or help them find extra help to boost their self-esteem?
