Week 10 Post 1
This week chapter one part that was really prevalent in my life right now is suicide. Last Sunday I had a friend who committed suicide. He was only 20 years old and he decided to take his life away. In the book it said that about 11.5 per 100,000 boys have actually committed suicide. The annual rate completed suicide for people age 15-19 in school or not is about 8 per 100,000 or .0008 percent. Many people mistakenly think suicide is more frequent in adolescence for four reasons: The rate low as it is, is much higher than it appeared to be 50 years ago, statistics on youth often include emerging adults aged 18-25, whose suicide rates are higher then those of adolescents aged 12-17, adolescent suicides capture media attention, parasuicdes may be more common in adolescents then later. The book says that boys are more likely to be withdraw. Though will my friend he wasn't withdrawn, he was acting normal the night that he committed suicide. Hours before he did so, we were at a party hanging out and talking like usual. Three hours later he decided to walk in front a train. I will never understand why he did this.

A couple years ago I also experienced someone close to me commit suicide. He was very young, only in middle school. Now in comparison to your friend I would have to believe this young man was withdraw, the only time I believe he wasn't was when he was with the church group. To my understanding in school he was being constantly bullied, which we learned about in chapter 13. Bullying really takes a toll on people especially now through the internet. It still breaks my heart today that this happened to someone I knew and cared about. I appreciate you sharing your story and am very sorry for your loss.
