Week 3 post 1
As a watch my nieces
and nephews grow up I am always in awe to how babies do things. Its like how
the box that their toy came in will keep them more entertained than the actual
toy. The fact that they take the simplest things, and make it into so much
more. Sensorimotor intelligence deals with the way infants think it’s a Piaget’s
term and is the first period of cognitive development. There are six different
stages in the sensorimotor intelligence. Stage one is from birth to one month
where they’re just staring, listening, grasping and sucking, us normally people
like to call this the newness stage where we’re just so fascinated with the new
babies. Then there is stage two which is from one to four months, which is
where they start to adapt by using the pacifiers and grabbing for their
bottles. After that it’s the stage 3 four
to eight months, which falls under secondary circular reactions. During this
stage you see the child responding better to people when they say certain
phrases. Stage four is also a part of the secondary circular reactions, stage
four is from eight to twelve months. Is where they go through the phase of new
adaptation and anticipation. They remember certain games that you play with them
so they will shape your hands however they want which is there way of saying
they want to play for instance peek a boo they might put your hands over your
eyes. The last category is the tertiary circular reactions which is stage five
and six. In stage five it deals with
twelve to eighteen months old this stage is where the infants are experiment
they are active and getting into everything. The last stage is stage six which
deals with infants eighteen to twenty four months old. This is where we see
that the child is acting considering or thinking before one acts. That could be
due to a previous experience that they had. You also see them coming up with
different ways to achieve a goal.
