I enjoyed reading this chapter a lot because it was all about
the time period that us as college students either just went through or are
still going through. I definitely
related to the section on bickering and having clashes with my parents. My mom
is definitely over protective and forgets that I’m not a child anymore. So
often we’d have clashes about cleaning my room, me going somewhere, etc. I definitely
think the years right before college are definitely the worst bickering wise
because I want to feel more independent and my parents still view me as living
in their home and being young since I’m still in high school. Once you start
getting your license and applying to colleges and being accepted you can’t wait
to leave home for sure. I definitely agree that once a child leaves for college
they start fighting less with their parents since they have the independence
they wanted all those years and have space from living with their parents and
are only home once in a while. Parents definitely view the child as older as
well now that they have to do everything for themselves like make dinner, get
to classes, and live on their own. When
I was in high school I definitely hid more things from my parents then I do
now. Now I just tell my parents I’m going to blahblahs house and they’re like
see you later, be safe whereas before they were like who is this person? When
will you be back? Do we know them, etc.
