For my first blog post, what I found very fascinating and
something that I also learned about in my marriage and family class is that
individuals now a days are living longer at home with their parents. An example
that our book displays is that people are waiting longer to get married; such
as getting married in the late 20’s rather than 18 or 19. A factor that plays a role is the economy the
expense of living is going up and individuals cannot afford to move out right
away. Not only has the expense of living gone up but the relationships
developed within families to become closely knit has increased. A study has found
the level of intimacy between family members is higher when the grown adult
children have moved out on their own rather than living with their parents
(Berger, 614). The reason being that the relationships become stronger is that
they are starting their own lives and settled instead of stuck in the “old ways”.
Bonds between friends and family can be strong and divided into two which can
lead to strong and close relationships. Relationships with friends can be for
reasons to share personal items with a person who has a close relationship with
the individual but also there are everyday people that we meet which are
considered consequential strangers. Having support from others besides family
members is important which creates a community and bonds with people of similar
interests.
