Erikson fifth psychosocial crisis, identity versus role
confusion, was first described more than 50 years ago. Adolescence is the time
for one to figure out who they are as a person and what they want to do in
life. This crisis still exists throughout adolescence and adulthood. In adulthood
many may not know what they are doing as far as work or anything else. They may
not know what they are meant to do which may lead to other problems in the near
future. In the text it states that fewer young adults may know who they are and
what path they want to take by the age 18. Identity is very important to know,
it is important for people to know exactly who they are, what sexual orientation,
career choice etc. if one does not then he or she may go through life living
not the way they want to live. When I was a teen I wasn’t quite sure who I was
until I was 17/18. My senior I realized who I was and where I wanted to be in
life. I stop being friends with people I thought were not my friends or decided
they didn’t want to do anything with themselves. Now I am 21 and I came to this problem where I’m
not quite sure about what career I want to do. I considered changing my major
but I’m not quite sure to what I should change it to. I want to do almost everything.
